History of Berks Technical Institute
Berks Technical Institute was originally established in February 1982 when the Lehigh Data Processing Institute received its license from the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools to provide training in data processing. In January 1984, Lehigh Data Processing Institute was granted accreditation by the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools (NATTS), which was later known as the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
In May 1987, the Institute was privately purchased, and in 1990 changed its name to Berks Technical Institute. In May 1992, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accredited the Medical Assisting program upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
In July 1996, the Institute was relocated to a 34,000 square foot facility at 2205 Ridgewood Road, Wyomissing. In April 1999, a technology wing was added that increased the facility to almost 50,000 square feet, and parking was expanded to accommodate over 600 cars. In May 2000, Berks Technical Institute was acquired by MC Education, Inc. and in March 2008, was acquired by Delta Career Education Corporation.
In 2010, the facilities were expanded to 63,500 square feet and parking was expanded to 650 cars.
In 2012, Berks Technical Institute was accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award Certificates, Diplomas, and Associate in Specialized Business/Technology Degrees.
