We offer the Expanded Function Dental Assistant Preparation courses you need to sit for the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry Expanded Function Certification (https://www.danb.org/Meet-State-Requirements/State-Specific-Information/Pennsylvania.aspx)*. In just three courses, we cover skills to help students to become an Expanded Function Dental Assistant. Our program includes hands-on training in a lab with equipment you'll use on a daily basis in the field. You will also have the opportunity to learn and work with instructors that have industry experience and are able to offer valuable, real-world insight.
This program is ideal for those who have already completed our Dental Assistant Program, as a strong foundation in the field is required.

Courses in Our Expanded Function Dental Assistant Preparation* Program
Students in this program will build on their existing knowledge of dentistry to gain new skills and techniques. Hands-on training is heavily emphasized.
Courses include:
- EFDA Pre-Clinical I- The majority of your time spent in the program is in this hands-on course. You will complete 150 hours of clinical hands-on practice under the supervision of a dentist.
- EFDA Pre-Clinical II - This course is a continuation of EFDA Pre-Clinical I. It focuses on amalgam placement and carving, composite restorative material placement, composite restorative material finishing and polishing and more.
- EFDA Clinical I - The majority of your time spent in the program is in this hands-on course. You will complete over 1050 hours of training on placing amalgam and composite restorations. You will also have the opportunity to review for the DANB Expanded Functions Licensure Exam for the State of PA
Throughout your program, you'll be using equipment commonly seen in the field. BTI has excellent and well-equipped dental labs that allow students to learn in a real-world environment similar to the one in which they will be working.
